Baptism - Infant through Age 6

We welcome and rejoice with parents who present their infants and young children to the community for baptism. We want to support them in their responsiblity of providing the environment in which their child can begin to feel God's love and come to personal faith.

Our Catholic Community has the following guidelines regarding infant/child baptisms:

  • Baptism Preparation Class is held the second Thursday of each month. Attendance at one of these sessions is required for parents. If it has been three or more years since your last child was baptized, you are required to attend. Godparents are also encouraged to attend.
  • Parent (s) are to be registered members of one of the churches of the Catholic Community of Manistee. Please check with the CCM Office to make sure your parish registration is up-to-date.
  • Godparents, as official representatives of the believing community, must be fully initiated (that is, have received Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist), be a registered and practicing Catholic in their parish; and are in a marriage recognized by the Catholic Church.
  • Baptisms can take place either within the regular parish liturgies or following them.

The next Baptism Class will be offered on Thursday, February 9, 2012
from 7:00 to 8:00 pm in the Prayer Room at the CCM Office building.

It is recommeded that you attend prior to the birth of your child. To register please call either Ann or Fr. John at the CCM Office at 231.723.2619.

Children over the age of 7, teens and adults who have never been baptized, or have been baptized in another faith tradition, and wish to become members of the Catholic Church go through the RCIA process, which is described under the Religious Formation tab of our website.

We, the Catholic Community of Manistee,

are committed to knowing and proclaiming Christ,
living as He calls us to live, and reaching out in love to all.
